In coming up with the name Zanthus, our founder and CEO relied on his schooling in English literature and more specifically, Greek mythology. After considerable research, he eventually hit upon Xanthus from the Greek xanthos, meaning 'reddish-yellow' (hence, our yellow-gold logomark). He spelled the name with a 'z' to avoid confusion with a now-defunct French software firm.
The name Xanthus appears in Greek mythology as the name of a river god and a city sacred to the sun god Apollo. However, it's most famously associated with Achilles' immortal horse in the Trojan War. This noble steed was the ancient Greek version of Mr. Ed, complete with human intelligence and speech. Xanthus is best remembered for warning Achilles of his impending doom. Although we've done our share of giving clients bad news, there's no need to fear; we'll be far more tactful than Xanthus and, unlike our four-legged namesake, offer some creditable solutions.
